Barack Obama - State senator from Hyde Park and apparent front-runner.

Libertarian
Jerry Kohn - High school teacher and Cook County library board member.

Independent
Albert J. Franzen - Retired electrical worker and union local president.

Republican
Alan Keyes - Former ambassador to the United Nations and presidential candidate, Keyes, an African-American, is a recent resident of Maryland, but many state Republicans believe he makes a strong match against Democrat Barack Obama.
