2004 elections - U.S. Senate, Illinois
Andrew McKenna - RepublicanPresident of Schwartz Paper Co. in Morton Grove, Ill., Andrew McKenna was courted by Rep. Ray LaHood and others to run against Sen. Peter Fitzgerald in the GOP primary. Though he was considered an early favorite after Fitzgerald dropped out of the race, McKenna, who has raised $1.8 million in his campaign, has fallen behind Jack Ryan and Jim Oberweis in the polls. Abortion: In a recent e-mail to supporters, McKenna explained his pro-life stance with a person experience. McKenna's younger brother, Micheal, was born with cerebral palsy. He, his parents and his six siblings cared for Michael's every need during his two years life. "[Michael] never had the enjoyment of walking or talking," said McKenna in the e-mail. "He probably did not have a day without pain. Yet, he was a vital part of our family. He taught us all much about love. Love is not bounded by difficulty or illness. In fact, it is often the case that love is all the more rich because of these realities. It is the presence of love that allows people to see life as a gift.” Same-Sex Marriage: McKenna told supporters that he supports President Bush's call for a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Selected Endorsements: Rep. Ray LaHood (R), Illinois Federation for Right to Life For more information on Andrew McKenna, visit his official campaign Web site at www.mckennaforsenate.com.
