2004 elections - U.S. Senate, Illinois

Jim Oberweis - Republican

Owner of Oberweis Dairy ice cream parlors and a stock broker from Aurora, Jim Oberweis was defeated in the 2002 primary for U.S. Senate by Jim Durkin.

Oberweis has upset Latino groups over ads in which he promises to crack down on illegal immigration and oppose President Bush's proposed "amnesty" program for illegal immigrants. A life-long Catholic, he supports a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

Selected Endorsements: Former state senate president Pate Philip.
