Maria Pappas - Democrat

Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas entered the senate race in fall of 2003, relatively late compared to her opponents who had been campaigning since the beginning of the year. Nevertheless, she's very popular in her home district and enjoys good name recognition throughout the Chicago area.
