Todd Stroger - Baby-faced Chicago alderman and son of Cook County President Stroger, who suffered a major stroke just days before the primary election that caused him to retire from office. John Stroger encouraged his fellow Democratic insiders to nominate Todd Stroger to replace him on the ballot.
Tony Peraica (R) - Peraica, of Riverside, is a critic of John Stroger's county budget proposals.

Debra Shore (D) - Founding editor of Chicago Wilderness magazine, lesbian and conservationist, Shore told the Windy City Times that she thinks the MWRD "could be a leader in conservation," adding that "there's no one with conservation credentials serving on the board." According to the report, Shore would like the MWRD improve disinfection of waste water and work to divert rainwater from the treatment system. Shore lives in Skokie.
